Waste Cleanup Day Commemorates National Waste Awareness Day at UNESA
Unesa.ac.id SURABAYA-Subdirectorate of Mitigation Crisis Center UNESA (SMCC) participated in Campus Clean-Up Action held in the framework of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2024. The event was held in each of UNESA's faculties on Friday, February 23, 2024.
This activity involved various parties including deans, student affairs directors, dormitory directors, faculty BEMs, HIMA study programs, student activity units, general students, dormitory residents, and cleaning services.
National Waste Awareness Day is commemorated every February 21, presented with an interesting concept in Campus Clean-Up Action with the tagline, #UNESAPEDULI #GOGreenUNESA. This event is not only a forum to clean up the campus environment but also aims to achieve national targets in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the waste and garbage sector.

Emillul Fata N.W., field coordinator at Ketintang Campus from the SMCC team, explained that as many as five team members were spread across several faculties to carry out waste collection.
The collected waste will be disposed of to landfills as part of a joint effort to achieve the clean-up target in each faculty. He also said that general student participation still needs to be improved, and improvements will be made through more massive socialization and inviting them directly.

The commemoration of HPSN 2024 at UNESA underlines the important role of the waste management sector as a driver of Indonesia's economic growth. This is a manifestation of the principle of sustainable waste management that integrates economic, social and environmental aspects.
“It is hoped that through joint efforts like this, the problem of plastic pollution can be addressed in a more productive way,” Emillul Fata hoped.[]
