UNESA promotes sustainable commuting on campus

Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) undertakes actions to promote more sustainable commuting by providing electric bikes (sepeda listrik) and centralised, multi-storey parking for its academic community, an effort the university reported when it received national recognition in the UI GreenMetric (UIGM) 2026 assessment.

Actions to promote sustainable commuting

Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) promotes more sustainable commuting through the Directorate of Smart Sustainability Campus (Direktorat Smart Sustainability Campus, USSC), which supports greener mobility on campus with dedicated infrastructure.

The Directorate of Innovation, Ranking and Scientific Publication (Direktorat Inovasi, Pemeringkatan, dan Publikasi Ilmiah, IPPI) reported on 18 September 2026 that UNESA provides electric bikes for the academic community and has built centralised, multi-storey parking areas, part of the environmental strategy that earned the university national recognition at the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 (Direktorat Inovasi, Pemeringkatan, dan Publikasi Ilmiah, 2026).

The action is university-wide, run by the Directorate of Smart Sustainability Campus under the Directorate of Innovation, Ranking and Scientific Publication, and covers the whole academic community (sivitas akademika), not one faculty.
